I have an annoying problem I can’t solve. Suddenly my laptop (Samsung R530) lost the use of all function keys, the number keys and both shift keys. Also, on boot up the touchpad is erratic, the touch function doesn’t work, and the ‘click’ buttons do random things (such as try and delete icons). However after about 5 minutes the touchpad starts to work normally again.
I have tried a number of things to resolve this – all unsuccessful:
• Restore to a previous backup point prior to the problem
• Attach a remote keyboard – all keys work fine
• Delete and reinstall the touchpad driver
• Clean the keys on the keypad with compressed air
None of this has worked and ~I’m getting really frustrated.
Does anyone have any bright ideas (other than take it into a repair shop)?

sounds like someone has spilt a drink on it. Keyboard and touchpad have circuit contact problems.
New keyboard probably required, maybe new touchpad - but more likely motherboard needs to be solvent washed to remove whatever has been spilt and is causing the short
Dont try it yourself. Get someone to sort it for you - someone who actually advertises spill cleanups. A lot pretend to do it, few actually can

Using external KB, works, seems that laptop oboard KB controller is still good, just the KB itself could be faulty.

Try disable the touch pad in Bios and see if that corrects the problem.

Use the external USB mouse instead.

probably need to take the laptop apart and check the KB/TP connections as well.

Hope this helps!
