I tried to update the virus definition of AVG anti virus free but a dialog appears saying "a .bin file is missing"
How can I solve this?

What version of AVG are you using? If you are not on version 8, then I suggest you install that.

I've using the latest version. installed about a week ago after uninstalling the older copy.

AVG 8 updates virus definitions successfully previously

It seems this has been a recent problem with the latest update. Try doing an update now to see if it goes through.
