I installed Partition Commander 9 software, during which it said it needed to restart my PC to take effect. It shut down, restarted, flashed up the brief "Sony" logo as usual (PC is a Sony Vaio) then I got a black screen with a DOS-looking arrow --> or similar and nothing more Sad

I have a recovery disk but I will lose anything that didn't come pre-installed.

What's gone wrong with my PC and how do I fix it? I don't believe the data on my hard drive has been lost but how can I now get to it?

I'd be grateful for any help at all please. Am desperate not to lose photos and video clips of my kids and I know I should've backed it up first but....

Do you have any disks or anything in the drives? It could be that it is not booting from the hard drive.

When you first boot your computer start tapping F-8...This will
take you to safemode.

Running System Restore

If you can boot Windows:

Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore. Click the Restore My Computer to an earlier time, next.

If you cannot boot Windows:

Boot into safe mode. Click the System Restore link. Click the Restore My Computer to an earlier time, next

By the way....How have you been SoftStag,my forum king.
