Summary: As there are more and more users got XAVC-Long GOP videos from Sony FS7, PXW-X70, etc camcorders, in this article wed like to share some tricks for using Sony XAVC L files in Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro.

Many guys have been complaining about the lack of XAVC-Long GOP support in Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, or Adobe Premiere Pro. Up until now, users had to resort to Sony's Catalyst Browse, Edit Ready or similar transcoding application to use the files. In this article, we will talk about how to import Sony XAVC L files into FCP/Avid/Premiere for smooth editing. Learn details.

Although Sony offers some trial software to convert/transcode, we have tried and find its still hard to import these professional XAVC Long GOP files or even read. There are several third-party software that promise to transcode professional XAVC L files. So far, most of them I have tried either crash upon opening or dont read. The only piece of transcoding software I currently have installed in my Mac that has been able to read and transcode professional XAVC Long GOP files so far has been Brorsoft Video Converter for Mac seems to workable and brings high quality. With it, you can effortlessly transcode XAVC-Long Gop to ProRes for Final Cut Pro 6/7/X as well as Apple InterMediate Codec for iMovie, DNxHD for Avid Media Composer, MPEG-2 for Adobe Premiere Pro.

How to Convert XAVC-Long GOP video to FCP/Avid/Premiere

Step 1: Launch the XAVC-Long GOP video converter. Click "Add" icon to load XAVC video files or directly drag&drop the files into file list.



Step 2: Click on the "Format" bar and choose a best editable format for FCP, Avid, Adobe Premiere.

a. To edit XAVC-Long GOP in FCP smoothly, you'd better select Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422 (*.mov) as the output format. It ensures the best result in Final Cut Pro.



b. To convert XAVC-L to Avid Media Composer, choose Avid Media Composer -> Avid DNxHD (*.mov) as the target format.



c. For editing XAVC-L in Adobe Premiere Pro, choose Adobe Premiere/Sony Vegas --> MPEG-2(*.mpg) as output format for editing in Adobe PP natively.



Step 3: In case the default settings do not fit your requirement, you can click "Settings" button and enter "Profile Settings" panel to adjust video size, bit rate, frame rate, sample rate and audio channels.

Step 4: Hit the convert button of the best XAVC L Converter; it will start converting professional XAVC Long GOP files for importing to FCP/Premiere/Avid MC immediately.

Soon after the conversion, just click "Open" button to get the generated files for natively editing in Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer perfectly.
