CD drive not working,

The cd/dvd writer on my laptop has just stopped working, i have been into device list and it says that it can't load the driver to run cd/dvd writer and wont load discs, cd's music or data of any kind, i am just asking for some help or advice, many thanks, Ryan

It sounds like the driver has become corrupt. The first thing to try is to uninstall the device. Right click it in the device manager and click "Uninstall". Then reboot the machine. It should re-detect the drive when it starts up. If it offers you the option to keep or replace the existing driver, select replace and it will reinstall the driver from the install files.

i have tried this but it still will not work

Hello Ryan. Have you tried Guided Help From Microsoft?

Scroll down the page to'Download Guided Help' this is a
127kb download program. When you activate the file just
follow the instructions and it does an auto-fix.
