|

Hi,
Where do I install driver installations. I have a Dell Studio 1535 Vista 32bit. I don't want to mess around with my laptop until I am certain what I am about to do is right.
I have a folder called OS(C):\DELL which i personally think shouldn't be there. This file contains all recent driver installations under the driver folder with the DELL folder.
Can you please advise me if I need to cut and paste the DELL folder into OS(C):\Program Files\Dell.
It's just that I am updating drivers and the integrated cam driver isn't showing up when i open the applications for the webcam. i'm thinking maybe its not running because its not in the correct destination folder.
Any help will be most appreciated. |

leave that folder exactly where it is
If you move it other things will stop working. Its part of the software preload and is supposed to be there
when you install new drivers just accept the default installation location
And just a tip - DON'T update drivers jut for the sake of it. If the PC is working then leave well alone. Only try a driver update if something goes wrong |

Ok, i'll just install urgent driver updates in the DELL folder under C: and not touch the C:\Program files\Dell folder.
You are right about unnecessary drivers, I learnt that the hard way. I've had to uninstall all the optional drivers as there was conflict with many applications. (Got abit excited with updating everything)
Thanks |

NO NO NO! You misunderstand
Install them to wherever each driver defaults to on installation. Some will default to c:\ dell others to c:\program files
Just let each install to where it is programmed to install.
Don't try to be clever by switching file destinations |
