|
|
I have a Western Digital Caviar Blue as a secondary hard drive, 640gb. I tried to use it in a new build with vista but it wouldn't see it except in the bios.
It's back in my xp system to test it. I can't see it in 'my computer' but xp disk management will only tell me that it's 'dynamic, unreadable'. All I want to do is re-format it to make it a basic disk or any kind of disk so that it can be used in my new build with vista. Is this possible or is it unusable? I do NOT want to recover files from it, just format it and xp disc management won't touch it. I am going insane and have been at this for days, help, please!
Thanks for reading this........ |

Hi curlykale
As you just want to format the HDD, on your XP PC swap it with the boot drive and boot the PC with your XP installation Disk in the Optical Drive and use the Disk to format the HDD. |

| but I was trying to do that in the new pc, Vista just wouldn't see it to format it, surely it'll be the same in this pc with an XP cd? |

| Thank you! Dbran did not do the job as it kept looking for a floppy drive and disk, so I did what you first advised. Windows Xp cd did not really want to recognise the disk but eventually it did and spent an eternity formatting. I ejected windows just before it started to load files and that's it. I can't thank you enough, brilliant! I can go out and enjoy my Easter break now, thanks again!!!!!! |
