Hello,
The following is my laptop spec:
Technology TL-60
1.99Ghz, 1.87BG of Ram,
Physical Address Extension
Matshita DVD-Ram UJ-860H
Windows XP Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 3
Now, whenever I insert a cd on my Matshita DVD-Ram UJ-860H, it shows this error message:
"D:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function".
I experience the same whenever I insert a blank dvd rw.
However, if the dvd rw is not blank then I am able to see the contents of the dvd rw disc without getting this error.
What is wrong ?
On my Windows Registry, I have 24 instances of this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
and on more than one of then the "Upper Filter" exists therefore I am unable to decide which one's "Upper" I should delete to see if the problem gets fixed or not.
I have seen on many forums others experiencing the same and getting advised to uninstall Roxio but I don't think I have it or the Nero because I can't find them on my Start-> All Programs.
And, I don't think that, me not having a cd burner software is the problem because like I mentioned before, I am able to see the contents of a dvd disc inserted on my dvd drive providing the disc is not empty.
I have seen the following solution mentioned on the internet:
"Got to the Drive letter in Windows Explorer
and right clicking on it. Go to Properties; Click on Recording; Check "Enable CD recording on this drive".
But the problem is, I can see only this much on my WinXp SP3:
Windows Explorer-> DVD-Ram'
and after right clicking on it -> Properties; but there is no "recording" tab.
Therefore, I cannot check the "Enable CD recording on this drive" option.
I am really stuck now ! Can some techie specialist help ?
Thank You |

try running the fixtool provided by Microsoft on thsi web page
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cd_dvd_drive_problems
If that fails then my suspicion is that either
1) the drive has failed
or more likely
2) because you don't have any DVD burning software, windows can't understand the blank DVD-RW disk. Thas basic packet-burnng software installed with XP CANNOT write to DVD disks.
However theres a bit more to it than that - the Microsoft CD burning software (which is a cut down Roxio product) cannot co-exist with any other packet burning software (e.g. DLA, In-CD or simuilar) so if one of those is installed you have to DISABLE the MS CD burning capability on the drive setttings tab. Even worse, Internet Exploer 8 is not compatibe with DLA - which is included in quite a few CD/DVD suites including many of the later Roxio versions
My advice woud be
1) uninstall any CD or DVD burning software on the machine
2) disable the MS CD burning
3) run that Microsoft patch
4) Install some DVD burning software but DON'T install the packet writing software part of it
Note that after installing that patch you may also have to reinstall any DVD playing software |

On MY Computers, it is showing up as:
CD Drive (D .
Now, if I right click this and click "properties" then it shows-up as:
Matshita DVD-Ram UJ-860H.
I tried copying a file from my C: drive onto it but the same error message. I think I was able to copy files from my C: drive to this cd/dvd drive before. I also can't find any cd/dvd burner softwares on my laptop. I think I uninstalled everyone I had a few weeks back for some reason. I'll try installing these burners now and see how things go. Now, which burner do you recommend ? It must write to cd-r and dvd+rw discs. |

I would recommend whatever came with the drive as that will have the ability to write to that DVD-RAM
RAM drives - when used with RAM disks can be iffy over what software they use. However if you are only going to use DVD-R / DVD-RW thats less of a problem
If you want to buy something, go with Nero. Its big bloated, bulky and pretentious - but works (unlike Rocio's offerings)
If you want basic CD/DVD burning with no fancy stuff, then download CDBurnerXP. Its free, simple and works. It DOESN'T do packet writing though - so you can't drag n drop |
