wheneverI try to double click the windows Firewall icon in Control panel, Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall/Internet connection sharing (ICS) service. Could this be the result of running ZoneAlarm?

I single out an entry in HijackThis log which I believe is related

O23 - Service: Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) (SharedAccess) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe (file missing)

there seems to be no incoming data on my 512kbps internet connection though it is still connected, exactly after an hour. My ISP finds no fault with my connection. Could this be the result of my firewall.

Try disabling ZoneAlarm to see if this allows you to access the Windows Firewall.

With regard to the internet disconnecting, we would need to know what type of setup you have. Some connections drop after a period of inactivity.

connection through ADSL, if that is what you meant.
I'm clicking all the time so it can't be inactive.

I also wanted to know if you are connecting via a router or whether you just connect via a modem.

Try removing all other devices from the telephone line (phones, faxes) and have the modem connected to the master socked via a microfilter. Does the problem still happen?

Did you try connecting to the master socket without an extension?

What happens when the connection drops? Do any of the lights change on the modem? If so what?

Could you advise me on this problem first.
Thanks.

Nothing is happening in this entry because it is pointing to an invalid path. Use HijackThis to fix this. The entry is not necessary, and is not the cause of your problems.
