Hi. I don't know if this is a problem or just a glitch. I had been using google chrome the previous day and everything was ok, The day after i clicked on the shortcut for google chrome and it came up install google chrome. The only way i could get into it was to click on my e mail notifier. I tried to install it from the link that came up from the google chrome shortcut but it was having none of it. I thought I would do a system restore but it said that it could not restore system no matter what date i put in.

I decided to delete google chrome and start again, This worked ok in that I had google chrome back but I had lost my book marks. Now this was working
I went into safe mode and tried to do a restore to the day before the problem
started, This worked but all that happened was google chrome vanished again. I thought it could be something nasty so i ran spybot to see if it found
anything but nothing came up. Do you think there is something nasty or am I being paranoid ? Thanks David

System restore is unlikely to make any difference to Google bookmarks
Forget trying to use that to repair them

If no other programs or user settings are affected I'd simply put it down to file corruption and carry on. Make sure you've scanned the machine well for malware etc, but I think you just need to put it down as "one of those things". You'll probably find that your first attempt at reinstalling the program wiped you user settings for it

Hi. I have done as requested and run hitman pro and combofix. Hitman only
found a load of cookies but I don't know about combofix as french means nothing to me. However I did get a report from combofix that I can send you
but I don't know if I can attach anything to this post ?

Thanks David

it ran in French? haven't seen it do that in years, unless you had the wrong download
try it from one of the alternate locations on that web page
And run it in safe mode, and if you are running Win& or Vista, right click it and "run as administrator"

Hi, I have downloaded another Combofix this time from bleeping computers.
But the bleeping thing is still in french! I ran it in safe mode this time but looking at the report it does not look like there is anything on this one that was not on the last one. I'm not 100 % certain but does combofix not delete
anything nasty that it finds after it has finished the scan ?

Thanks David.

Everything seems to be ok now, But then again everything seemed ok before. If google had not vanished I would not have been any wiser.
Apart form google going the thing that made me think something was a miss
was that when I went into google through my e mail notifier on the right side
of the google search bar is a blue block with a white magnifying glass inside it
The blue block was in place but no magnifying glass. But as I say everything is or seems to be ok now.

Thanks again for all your help,

David.
