I actually joined the forum and did this quite a while ago, but didn't post it up here because I didn't have the time.

I have Windows 98SE (i think?) and downloaded the USB Mass Storage Device Drivers for both Windows 98FE and SE. I first downloaded the FE or SE one (i forgot, sorry!) and it worked perfectly fine. Then, I accidentally downloaded the other one and now the computer's ruined. Embarassed

I now get the error when I start the laptop: "your program is making an invalid dynamic link call to a .dll file" in Chinese (你的程式正在對.DLL檔執行無效的動態連結呼叫). Any help would be great!

I also hope you guys, the admins, would put up a huge warning notice (and note the consequences) to prevent this from happening again.

Hi toyotaboy95, welcome to the forums.

There is a disclaimer on the page, it advises to back up your system before installing the drivers.

What language version of Windows 98 are you using? There are no Chinese drivers, so I don't really understand how you are getting errors about Chinese DLL files.

Windows 98 in Chinese Traditional. I guess the error's related to the computer itself (registry?), not the driver. But....the first English driver I installed worked perfectly ok.

Any idea how to reverse it? USB broken. There's a floppy drive.

Oh and it comes up a few seconds (10s~) after logging in. Then after I click OK, it hangs...and I have to restart explorer.exe

I think what you have done is installed the FE drivers, then the SE drivers on top of those. To make matters worse, you have installed the English versions on a Chinese version of Windows.

I would recommend installing Windows from the original CD back over the top of the existing installation. This should revert things back to how it was before you installed any of the drivers - it shouldn't affect data and installed programs, however you should take a backup of your data as a precaution.

The problem is that the computer is really old (the ancient Toshiba Satellite series) and I no longer have the disk. I also have very important, but old, files in the laptop <= that's why I downloaded the USB driver in the first place. Any other possible solutions?

I think the Windows installation has pretty much had it. If you are looking at getting the data off, then there are several options:

Arrow If the computer has an Ethernet connection, connect it to another PC and share the files on this PC so they can be copied over the network to the other PC
Arrow Download Ubuntu, burn to CD, boot from the CD (select not to make any changes to your computer) - computer will boot in to Ubuntu (Linux) GUI - copy all the data you require from the hard drive to a USB Mass Storage Device.
Arrow Physically remove the hard drive from the PC and put in to another PC and copy the files across.
