Can you help please

I have a windows XP based PC but in deleting files to free up the memory I have somehow lost the sound device. Is there an easy way of downloading a solution?

I have tried the Add Hardware Wizard but it asks for me to enter the original CD. Presumably this is the original Windows XP disc. Mine came with the computer and I do not have a copy.

Any help gratefully received.

"Is there an easy way of downloading a solution"

without details of the make/model of the machine its impossible to know.
or alternatively details of the motherboard

have you checked the manufacturers site for a sound driver download?

This issue could be caused by any of the below possibilities.

Bad software settings.
Corrupt or missing sound drivers.
Compatibility issues with the operating system or other hardware.
Speaker related issues.
Bad or missing sound card.

its clear whats wrong - he deleted his sound driver files, they need reinstalling. But until the machine can be identified we can't tell which ones are required

According to the problem you are facing, we suggest you to Reset your computer to a previous time by:

Run-> restore->OK OR C:\WINDOWS\system32\Restore

In the pop up window, click the icon rstrui and choose options given there and restore it to a previous time. Hopefully your problem will resolve.
