How do you Edit Copywrited DVDs? (splice scenes)

Hello

I have the 6hour boxset of David Attenborough's "Planet Earth"
and would like to edit it down to the best 30minutes of footage for my Grandmother to watch while in hospital.

Is there anyway I can record the screen while the DVD is playing and save it to a format which I can later splice and merge?

I use a windows Vista laptop (2.16ghz twin processor + 2gb RAM)
which has "Windows Movie Editor" installed

many thanks

Jameson

Copyrighted DVDs contain encryption to prevent you from copying. What you are trying to do is something that the DVD manufacturers are trying very hard to stop you from doing! It could also be a breach of the copyright. It is against the forum rules to give advice on such issues.
