|Win8's explorer uses a ribbon similar to that in Office 2007/2010. If you would like the ribbon to always open minimised then read on.
A Local Policy Editor tweak will make any explorer window open with the ribbon minimised, rather than fully open.
Either type gpedit.msc on a blank part of the Start screen or press the Win key and R to open the 'Run' box and type gpedit.msc in there and press Enter to open to policy editor.
Navigate to Computer Configeration/ Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Windows Explorer.
Double click 'Start windows Explorer with ribbon minimised' in the right hand pane.
Check the Enabled radial and click 'OK'.
Close the Local group Policy Editor window.
You may need to reboot or log off then back on again for the change to take effect but shouldnt have to.
The ribbon will always open minimsed now, clicking on the little arrow will show/hide it as with clicking any of the tab links.
