Hello guys,
I was looking through the files in my computer and i noticed a file that was unknown to me. I'm not sure how it got there but it kind of worries me because its a bit suspicious. Its called TR/Dropper.Gen. I scanned my computer with my antivirus program, but it did not recognize it as a virus. Is it harmful and do I have to remove it and how? Thanks Confused

Download and scan with MalwareBytes in 'Safe' mode.
If you dont how to boot into Safe Mode, restart your machine and repeatedly press F8 until you get the option to start in Safe Mode.

What AV are you using?

Hi, AlanWade,
I am actually using Malwarebytes. Before I do that can you tell me if you have any information about TR/Dropper.Gen at all, and do you know what it does and if its harmful?
Thank you.

before you get too bogged down with this....."TR/Dropper.Gen" is a descriptive term used by antivirus and security software to define files it believes are certain types of trojan dropping malware.
The file itself won't be called that - just the definition

Now, where are you seeing this name - is it after running a malwarebytes scan, in the "found" list? If so, what happens when you use the malwarebytes cleanup options? Where exactly does malwarebytes say the file is located, and what is the actual file name?

Thank you, JonS. I saw it in the task manager and it was a running process.

However i did some searching on my own an found some useful info that helped me deal with this file.

If someone with the same problem is reading this here is what i found:
http://www.americanpendulum.com/en/2012/03/14/remove-trdropper-gen/
and this http://www.avira.com/en/support-threats-description/tid/3647/tlang/en
And i deleted TR/Dropper.Gen from C:\Program Files , from the computer registry and stopped the process in the Task Manager.

Thanks again. Smile

curious it should appear like that
Never known a virus self-advertise........almost like an AV program had tried to isolate it, but failed
