|
|
| I'm running XP and have limited computer knowledge. I downloaded a program called "My Heritage" and since then have had problem after problem. At first I couldn't open anything, but after starting my laptop in Safe Mode, I managed to run my Panda IS and rid 2 virus's. However, now my pc acts as if it is in Safe Mode,(which I don't think it is). Slow starting taking about 10 mins to get to the start screen, the icons and everything I open is extra large text and takes ages to get from one screen to the next. I have tried deleting My Heritage from "add and remove software" and it tells me it's been deleted, but it hasn't. Also I took my starting point back 2 weeks, but I just can't get rid of it at all. Do you think, I still have the virus? Panda is not showing any now. How can I get back to normal? |

hard to be sure, but is sounds as if something has disabled the windows services / drivers from loading at startup
Difficult to comment really without seeing the machine, but it sounds like maybe the registry corrupted and so a default one has loaded without these "extras". It could be a bad program which did that, could be a virus, could be something like bad memory causing the registry corruption.
You've tried system restore, and thats failed - which suggests something major. Are you getting any message regarding a "failed profile"? Whenyou check your documents / picturs etc are they there? |

| I should also mention that when I go to Control Panel and "Display" none of the tabs are available. Only the desktop theme tab is open. |

that indicates the display drivers are not installed
It looks more and more that the system had a major software glitch and loaded the original first default registry that was created when the system was first booted up
it may be possible to manually restore a more recent registry, but its not a task for the beginner. Instructions are at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545
You may want to hire in help at this point |
