Hi... I'm using a mobile Internet dongle which is great except it cuts the connection if I don't send a web request of some kind frequently enough. So, I'm looking for a website or a utility which requests a small (1 or 2 kb) download every 10 to 20 seconds or so... just to keep the web server on it's toes.

Does anyone know of a suitable website or downloadable utility? Thanks.

I'm not sure it would disconnect as frequently as 10-20 seconds. The easiest thing to do is open you email client (Outlook or whatever) and set it to check your mails every minute.

this was a problem in early versions of Vista but was patched with later updates. Someone DID write a program to do exactly what you want, but it should not be required now. And to be honest it was so long ago I've lost the link
if your modem is dropping it suggests something else is going wrong: poor signal, bad USB connection - or possibly lack of a windows update
Make sure your system is fully patched, and you have the latest software ans drivers for your dongle

That's a good idea SoftStag, but I'm using Windows Live Mail and it doesn't have the facility to check for new emails automatically... at least, I can't find anything like that in options.

Anyway, I've found the answer... a free stock market ticker utility... Smile
