I have a compaq presario R 4000 laptop and recently it has started behaving with a mind of its own. Examples of things happening are, applications open on their own such as calculator, file search, internet connection wizard, outlook express. Sound will turn on by its self and in certain applications like games when my partner is playing solitaire it will deal a new hand for her even if not requested. I suspected viral activity and scanned and cleaned and even formatted the hard drive and re installed windows to no avail the problem still continues. I have tried getting help from HP themselves with no luck and on a few other forums, please please can someone help.

Many thanks in advance

Ian

Does your laptop have any smart buttons that open email etc? If you have re-installed the OS I would suspect a hardware fault with the keyboard. The applications and controls that you mention are typically ones that get launched from those type of quick launch buttons.

It has a few short cut keys bit not for all those applications, the calculator for example has always been started through start/all programes/accessories/calculator, internet connection wizard has only been reinstalled since re installing the OS, sound has seperate control above the keyboard. I was wondering if this could be casued by overheating of the cpu?

It is unlikely to be due to overheating. Overheating tends to cause the PC to lock up, shut down or give blue screens of death.

program?

Hi

This problem has been solved and traced to a problem with the wireless mouse. Now using a normal plug in optical mouse and all the problems have vanished. Thanks for the help
