Hi. I have a voice recorder that does not have a driver for Windows 98SE.
I got a link to a driver from this site that would read any USB device for windows 98SE BUT it seems to require (in the instructions) that I uninstall all USB drivers I currently have. I'm very reluctant to do that. Is there an alternative idea? The voice recorder is an Olypmpus DS30. All I need is to transfer the files to the PC via the USB, nothing fanc.y Olympus does not require a speciality driver to do that , and of course a later operating system would just automatically read the info without any driver. I did call Olympus and they verified that they do not have a driver for Windows 98SE.
(as I said, I"m reluctant to uninstall the USB drivers I have for other purposes so that I can install that universal USB program. I use SanDisk jump drives/memory sticks alot (with Sandisks drivers for Windows 98SE) and I don't want to risk uninstalling that Sandisk driver which works great. It would be a disaster if my sandisk micro and mini cruzers stopped working. Nor can I back up operating system etc. to give it a whirl; it's an old computer with no DVD drive and I have no way of backing things up except via USB jump drives/memory stick)
Is there anything else I can try? maybe tell it to try using the sandisk driver for the olympus? I did not try that, but doubt it would work. or dowloading the olympus driver for other windows operating system anyway and hoping that works? I doubt that would work too...
Can anyone help? |

The drivers will work for most USB mass storage devices - not any USB device! I'm not sure whether the voice recorder you have is a mass storage device or not, so I have no idea whether these drivers will work. I do know that the drivers work fine with Sandisk USB Flash drives, so uninstalling their drivers and installing these shouldn't impact on their functionality.
I guess you could install these drivers without removing the Sandisk one, but you could be lining yourself up for more trouble. If you don't want to install these drivers then I suggest you use a different PC to copy the data from the voice recorder and transfer it on to a flash drive that works on this PC. _________________ "Microsoft programs are generally bug-free.
