I have just refomatted a Sony Vaio laptop changing the operating system from Vista to XP pro but now cannot access the internet, it appears that the network adapters did not load, could any one offer help?

It sounds like you just need to install the network adapter drivers. To do this you will need to know what model of laptop you have. Go to this link and enter the model, and you should be able to download the correct drivers.

Thanks for your help but I have tried this already and it doesn't work. I think it is because the original drivers are based on Vista and now I have XP pro?

Vista drivers will not work on XP, you will need to download the XP drivers if they are available. Like Markb says, if you can let us know the exact model you have, we may be able to locate the appropriate drivers for you.

Sony don't supply XP drivers for this model. Try the following:
Wireless Drivers
Wired Network Drivers
