Nancy Hultquist, director of 2015 Black Friday Deals communications for the Pedorthic Footwear Association, said the shoe industry is changing to meet a growing need for more therapeutic footwear.
"Over the course of a lifetime, feet lengthen and broaden and the natural fat pad on the foot begins to deteriorate. People then begin to rely on footwear to keep them at a higher comfort level, she said. "Also, young people, who grow up in athletic shoes, want more comfortable footwear when they enter the workplace.
Gary Held, a cosmetologist and hair stylist in Oklahoma City, spends about eight hours a day on his feet. Comfortable shoes are a priority, he said.
"I've had New Balance Black Friday problems forever in this business, and I've tried a number of different shoes and inserts, he said.
Held said he's found comfort from several New Balance shoes and orthopedic fiberglass inserts prescribed by his podiatrist. Right now, he favors slip ons made by Timberland.
"They're really comfortable. They're the first non lace shoe I've been able to wear, he said.
Scott Vaughan, manager of New Balance shoe store in Edmond, said shoemakers are beginning to respond to such cries for comfort and medical benefit 2015 Black Friday Deals in footwear.
"Companies are making shoes that offer more support and cushion, and as more and more people are having foot problems, we are seeing more and more brands out there, Vaughan said.
