I ran the disk optimizer on norton 360 b4 I backed anything up now alot of things I cant get to for example my start menu items show empty but I can go to control panel for things like system tools and its all still there is there a way to get this back to normal I tried restore and that wont work it says your computer can not be restored to whatever date i try . Os windows Xp Home. Seems like everything is still there but lost in the computer somewhere.

It sounds like you may have lost the Long Filenames for your folders. If you browse your C: drive, do you get a Program Files directory, or is there one that looks like PROGRA~1?
