I have recently bought a PCMCIA ethernet adapter for my win98 laptop - a Toshiba 490xcdt with 96mb ram, 4gb hdd, intel p2.

I installed the card using the disc included with it, this containing the drivers etc. During installation though, afew files were unable to be located on the disc or couldn't be read from disc. Only about 3 or 4 files had a problem.

According to device manager the card is fine, but I can't connect to the internet. Do I need to configure the laptop in anyway or get some sort of settings to be able to access internet?

I'm close to giving up on this laptop Mad so your help is appreciated Smile

Thanks

It depends how you connect to the internet. Presumably you are using a router, if so it depends how this is configured to whether you need to configure the PC.

Can you tell me what setup you have?

Let me just say that i'm confused!

I haven't replied to your er... reply because each time i checked for several days afterward there was no reply to my question!

I have since returned the PCMCIA ethernet card to maplin as i didn't want to be stuck with it after paying 20. so how is it your reply now appears dated 1 day after my post but wasn't there even last week when i checked? Hmmm...

Anyway, due to the continuing problems with the toshiba, i gave up on it and give it away to a deserving home Smile

Plus i got my tax rebate and got myself a half decent laptop Very Happy

Thanks for all your help regarding the tosh490 - much appreciated.

I do have a prob with my new laptop tho i'll put that on another post. It is regarding vista's speech recognition. tally-ho Razz
