hi guys

i have a problem where i cannot open most filse on my pc, i can open audio and video files but when it comes to opening the likes of msn messenger or even items in my control panel they will not open

someone sai it may be a missing dll file/s

they advised i restart and start in safe mode then start from a date previously before the problem happened

however this hasnt cured the problem Sad

tthe files that it wont open show a "white box" with another little box inside with a red blue and green dot

realy starting to annoy me

is there anyway i can get an online scan to establish what is missing as everytime i download something that would hopefully do the trick it wont open.
or is it simply a reboot that is needed?

and advice greatful

thanks

Craig

I'm not aware of any online scan that can help with this.

It would be helpful to know the following:
Arrow What version of Windows are you using?
Arrow What error message do you get when you try to open things that don't work?
Arrow Is it just icons on the Desktop that don't work, or is it the Start Menu also?
Arrow Can you post an image of the icon you get?

It sounds like the shortcut is broken, can you open the program if you browse the Program Files folder for it?
