Hi there,
I wonder if anybody could assist me with a query please Rolling Eyes .
I have downloaded the free version of real player version 11. However when I try to play one of my files it says "real player needs to download new software to play this clip" Question I have look for the solution on the internet and also tried to contact real player but they only offer support to paying members (I can't blame them, with people like me around.. lol)
Anybody knows what to do?? Very Happy
Many thanks in advanced and all the best!

It is possible that that particular file got somehow damaged, or that you need to authorize Real Player to download the files it needs off the internet (let it through your firewall or give it the OK)

Hi there, many thanks for your reply!
when I click OK, it says "you do not have the necessary user permissions to enable AutoUpdate. please contact your system administration for more information" Crying or Very sad . when I go and tried to download it through the administrator, it searches for updates but it tells me there are no updates for this content (rar). Also I am not sure Confused how to let it through the firewall... sorry I am not that good with computers at the moment, at my age..!
Any help?

What is the file extension you are trying to play? If I read your post correctly, it is a RAR file. If so, then this is not a media file, it is a compressed file. Use something like WinRar to extract the contents.

Real player is a program which you could say suffers from wishful thinking. When it can't open something, rather than saying it's uncompatible with it, it sees if Real Media has created something that makes it compatible.

I guess you could try with other media players. Windows Media, Quicktime, and Winamp are the more traditional ones. Of course, there are certain files only Real Player can play.

It would be helpful knowing what file you're trying to open, as Soft Stag pointed out.
