Hi

I have a problem I am trying to resolve

"windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
windows\system32\config/system"

its asking for the original windows cd-rom to be inserted so it can use the repair function to fix it.

however I do not have the original windows cd or the activation code. If use a diferent windows disk and insert it to repair will this wipe my computer or allow me to access it as usual?

thanks

You don't have to use the same disk as was originally used to install Windows, but it must be the same version. I can't tell from your post whether Windows is trying to replace one file, or repair the installation. If it is the later you may need the Product Key. All legal copies have this, and it will either be on a sticker stuck to the PC, or on the Certificate of Authenticity that came with Windows.
