Firstly can I say hi to everyone.

This is my first posting and I am not a very tech minded person.

Please can anyone help me with the following.

1 My provider is Talk Talk and they supplied me with a free router on joining them. However, I feel that the router is both flimsy and not up to the job.

2. I want to purchase my own router as the Talk Talk one does not appear to give a very a very good signal in my house. Would upgrading to a better one improve this situation?.

3. Can you say if this would be a major task for a non tech minded person to undertake or is it considered fairly strait forward?.

4. Would I have to inform my provider of my intentions?.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks

all routers are flimsy. Whether it can do the job is another matter.

Getting another router MAY improve the signal, but no guarantees. It depends on a lot of things. What is the make model of the current router? How big is the house? How much metal is in the walls /plasterboards? How far away is the router from the PC?

Setup on most routers is usually reasonably easy if you can follow the manuals. You'll need your Talktalk user name and password. That is not the same as your e-mail details

Don't tell talktalk - they don't need to know. However expect grief from them if you are using a third party router and call for tech support. They'll refuse to help until you get one of their units
