Hi.
About a month ago I had to reformat my computer. Just prior, my speakers of 7 years (Cambridge Soundworks) stopped working. Figuring it was due to the other problems with my computer (WIN98SE/computer approx. 7 years old) I waited before doing anything.

But after reformatting my hard drive, and 'upgrading' to WIN2000, the speakers still didn't work. My IT friend said the speakers were just old.

He gave me another pair and they've worked fine. Until today. I believe his were new and he just hadn't used them since getting them a year ago.

So, now I'm wondering if it IS something with my dinosaur computer or whether his speakers are defective, too?

I'll be getting a new DELL soon - well, it's two years old with WIN2000 on it. Should I wait until I get that computer before buying new speakers?

Or, is there something I can do to see if I am doing something 'wrong' with the configuration? And no, they are not on mute Laughing

Thanks for any help you can offer.
Kate

Try plugging the speakers in to a MP3 player or something to see if they do work.
