Hi,

When the Server is started, the message 'The Sysax multi Server will not start'. In the control panel I had selected all the default ports and had selected the FTP server.

On some occasions the message 'Server is Running' appears, but when I go to the HTTPS interface the server is not running.

I thought this might be a port issue, and uninstalled some servers using other ports from my computer in case and restarted.

Norton Smart Firewall was turned off Windows Firewall disabled.

Customer support for Sysax Multi Server has ceased (not mentioned in the advert), the problem did not occur during the trial version, and as my license is a few weeks new I am searching for free or fee-based support.

Any advise or support on getting this server to start, or finding what other program might be using the port would be appreciated.

have you tried raising a support ticket at http://www.sysax.com/support/index.php?_m=tickets&_a=submit ??

I doubt if theres anyone on this forum who has experience of this software

Yes I think I've tried everything. The software documentation was read through and FAQ in this and online. While the newly licensed pro version software asks me to contact support, support appears non-available in both the ticket based system and the forum.

As from the logs, is there a way from the command interface I could find what other program might be using the same port. any advice would be appreciated.

the logs don't tell you what else is on port 21
However as port 21 is normally reserved for FTP, do you have any other FTP software running on the machine? If so, that probably the cuplrit

two things you can do to try and ID whats running

1) download and run "active ports". You can get it from several locations on the web, such as this one from Tucows http://www.tucows.com/preview/213738
It'll give you a list of all open networking software and the ports being used

2) use Hjack This http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/ and /or autoruns http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902 to see just what programs are loading up at startup
Both programs enable you to disable programs from running automaticlly - but should be used with caution. Its easy to kill a computer with them!

3) don't rule out the possibility of a trojan or rootkit running a "hidden" ftp server on your machine. Try scanning for malware in turn with
Hitman Pro http://www.surfright.nl/en/downloads
Combofix http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix
Malwarebytes Antimalware http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Sorry I can't be more specific, but I've no experience of this program at all
