Hi there,
I was hoping someone might be able to help me with finding a driver for 98's first edition, as I have photos on an old computer I want taken off so I can finally get rid of the damn thing, can anyone please help me with that. I don't have the internet on the old computer so I need to be able to do something through my laptop. Hoping someone can help. Question

First download the drivers, either on your new computer or any other PC that has internet access. This download is self installing. You may need to check which edition of Win98 you have before downloading the file you need. I updated Win98 to the unofficial second edition and still had no problems with the NUSB v3.3. Here's the link if you'd like to upgrade, though if you have 1st Edition try that first.

http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?s=78f018ac3e2d9fc8ee363d472c4e3876&showtopic=46581 This may be useful should you need to upgrade from Win 98 FE to Win 98 SE.

http://exuberant.ms11.net/98sesp.html This is for updating Win98 SE to Service Pack 2 (Unofficial)

Next you need to copy this installer to the old computer. I did this by writing the installer to a CD using a PC in the library as that was the only way I could get internet access, or access to a PC, at the time.

If your old computer doesn't have a CD drive then perhaps put the installer onto a floppy disc. Some MP3 players with storage capability may work without all this, my Alba 1GB mp3 occasionally worked. Just make sure it's a simple player, none of those up to date video players like Creative Zen, Samsung, etc. Although I tried installing drivers from the included CD for my Zen V Plus I still couldn't get it to work!

Next you need to run the installer which is pretty much automatic. Once you've done that you may need to restart the computer. Then it's just a matter of transfering your Photos Smile

So simply put:

1. Check Win98 1st or 2nd Edition.
2. Download NUSB installer on any PC.
3. Transfer NUSB to old computer by any means you can.
4. Double click the NUSB .exe file to install it.
5. Restart the computer.
6. Transfer your Photos. You may then use pretty much any storage device that connects via USB.

Idea I just had a thought, Embarassed You do have a USB port on your old computer?

Hope that helps, good luck.

By the way, we all ask silly questions, it's how we learn Wink

This is my first time using this site. I followed the instructions and my flashdrive is now recognized by my PC but the PC thinks that it has no available storage. When I use properties to examine the used space on the flash drive, it indicates that there is no space used or available. Did I forget to do something. I pretty much followed the instructions outlined at the end of the post. The installer ran frm start to finish with no problems. Previously, it just told me that it couldn't find any driver anywhere.

It sounds like the drive is formatted with NTFS. Windows 98 does not support the NTFS file systems. See this post for more details:
External USB Drive Recognised but not Available

I had a similar problem and it was due to the format of the drive, it was NTFS but just right click on the device in 'My Computer' and you should have an option to format it I believe. Select FAT 32 as your formatting option when asked then you should be good to go...

Good luck Very Happy
