With mobile phones it is not usually as simple as just plugging it in to the PC and expecting it to work. You will need some software, and the Sony software does not work for Windows 98. You will need to get some other software to do this. I had a quick look on the internet, and I can't find any free software that will link your phone to Windows 98. I did find Mobile Master which seems to fit the bill and has a 30 day free trial, so you can make sure it works before paying for it.
