My volume control has suddenly got a mind of its own. For no reason at all, no particular time and with no particular task being performed it will turn itself alll the way down. Even when I'm listening to music. Can anyone help me figure out why so that i can fix it?

This may be happening because of some SpyWare, try running a scan with a SpyWare checker. If this doesn't work, can you tell us what version of Windows you are using? Also, have you installed anything new recently?

Do you know what soundcard/chip you have? It may be worth seeing if you can get updated drivers for it.

Have you installed any software that may have an AVC (automatic volume control) function?
