tell us more about how you know you have this infection. What is giving you this message
What AV software do you have on the machine? Is it not working? |

| I have Avast professional installed and fully updated daily. It detects the virus, but only provides me with the options to either delete the infected file or move it to a virus vault. I need av software that will disinfect the files and leave them intact.. |

what is the name and path of the file?
To be honest, if Avast can't disinfect it I doubtif anything else will be able to. Avast is one of the more powerful AV tools
I suspect that the infected file is a fie which shouldn't be there at all and SHOULD be deleted. |

The virus infected my entire external drive, so all files are infected. Thus I need something to disinfect and not delete the files, as I cannot afford to lose these files. Avast is surely the best, but it can only delete the infected files. The virus changes the properties of the folders to i.e. Mydocs.exe making them executables. Avast then denies me access to these files prompting me to delete them because of the infection. If I disable Avast, I am able to access the folders, but I am scared the virus will just then infect my laptop. Thus not a good idea...
Any other suggestions? Is there no av software that could scan an external drive from boot and the disinfect without access through the os? |

JonS is correct. Really the infected files need to be deleted, if that's the entire hard drive, then so be it. Hopefully you will have a backup.
I see you have posted in other forums and got no real help there. That's probably because you are asking the impossible, or at least something that requires very specialist knowledge. I would recommend this forum for good virus removal advice. _________________ "Microsoft programs are generally bug-free. Thanks for the help, I am slowly recovering my files, bit by bit, but the virus keeps on hiding my folders. On a search of the drive they do show up, so I'll take it slowly from there....not good though! |
