I had to reinstall windows xp operating system. I did so with a legitimate copy of this program and after installation I
was able to download all the important security updates and SP-3. Upon initial setup I was advised I had 30 days to activate windows so I chose to activate now, then was shown a message that windows had been activated and was thanked for doing so. Now that 30 days have passed, I am once again asked if I want to activate windows...I choose yes...a screen pops up saying windows is already activated, If I select “NO” I am forced to shutdown, and the cycle continues, and now I am unable to use my machine at all. I am completely locked out of it because of this error and I really need to access my important files as soon as possible but cannot do so. I did try to go into Safe Mode to see if there were anything there that I could try but don’t know what that would be anyway, so had to shutdown and write to you for help using a different machine to contact you. If you can possibly help me in any way please do, and if not, then perhaps you could direct me to someone who can?
My Sincere Thanks: Richard

P.S. I checked Google for answers but found none , but others are experiencing this same issue as shown below!

This can happen on OEM versions of XP, so I assume you have an OEM version.

Try the following:
Arrow Turn the computer on and immediately start tapping the F8 key
Arrow At the menu select Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Arrow At the prompt, type in: explorer and press Enter
Arrow In My Computer browse the Windows CD and copy the TOOLS folder to c:\
Arrow Browse the TOOLS folder on the c: drive and find deploy.cab
Arrow Right click on deploy.cab and select extract to and extract it to the tools folder - this will create a new folder called deploy
Arrow Open the deploy folder and run sysprep
Arrow Select Factory Seal and the computer will shut down once completed.

Now when you start the computer up it should not ask about activation.

As per SoftStag suggestion which I received for a possible correction of this error, I was unable to perform all the steps suggested. Got down to the step advising to "Extract To" and could not find this option listed. I did find "Send to" so tried this and managed to get down to the step advising to open Deploy and Sysprep, then was stopped here: System Preperation Tool 2.0 - -
"SETUPCL.EXE" is not present - "SYSPREP CANNOT RUN ON THIS SYSTEM". I will appreciate further help for this problem! Many Thanks To All!

You might need to install Winzip or Winrar to extract all the files from deploy.cab

You can probably double click on deploy.cab and it should show you it's contents. Then drag and drop them all in to a new folder and run sysprep from there.

To SoftStag and others: I am happy to report that the instructions you gave me were correct and I am once again able to access my files. One last problem remains that I need advise on. Upon booting up, a System Preparation Tool screen pops up showing choices to be made, and I am uncertain which to select? Choice (1) "To skip Windows Welcome or Mini Setup & configure the installation as scripted in Winbom.ini , click “FACTORY”. Choice (2) To reboot this computer & manually test the installation, click “AUDIT” (Audit available only in factory mode) - Choice (3) To prepare the computer for the end user, click: “RESEAL”. Also two unchecked options are shown: 1: “Don’t reset grace period for activation.” and 2:
“Don’t regenerate security identifiers.” Lastly a drop down choice of shutdown is shown at the bottom.
I originally selected Factory, but the machine went thru all the same motions and ended up with this selection screen again. I belive I should probably select Choice 3 for end user, and tick the boxes showing don’t reset and don’t regenerate? ? Don’t recall the other choices under shutdown! If you can lead me thru these choices I believe I will be good to go, so please advise at your earliest convenience! Sincere Thanks: Richard
